Vol. 159 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding of Mayo Land.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that, because of the flooding of the River Deel, serious damage has been caused to lands in the Keenagh townland, and if he will take steps to have the river cleansed and deepened.

The cleansing and deepening of the River Deel could be undertaken by the Commissioners of Public Works only as part of a scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, for the Moy Catchment Area in which that river lies. A scheme is at present being designed and the treatment of the Deel will be amongst the matters arising for consideration.
