Vol. 159 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork House-Purchase Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a purchase scheme under the Labourers Act, 1936, in respect of 786 houses in the South Cork housing area has been held up since June, 1955, because of the fact that the scheme envisages a 35 year purchase scheme whilst the loan is repayable over a period of 50 years, and if he will introduce amending legislation to provide for the continuation of payments of subsidy until the loan period has expired.

I am aware that the local authority has not made a purchase scheme for the dwellings in question because of the consideration to which he refers. I do not propose to introduce legislation of the nature suggested.
