Vol. 159 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aran Fishermen's Petition.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has received a petition from a number of lobster fishermen in the Aran Islands; if so, if he will state the matters to which it directs his attention, and what action he proposes to take.

I have not received a petition from lobster fishermen in Aran. An unsigned document was recently handed in to my Department in which reference was made to alleged arrangements for marketing of catches of unnamed members of a group of fishermen, stated to include Aran Islanders. The document directed attention to an alleged breach of contract by certain buyers in relation to these arrangements and called for an inquiry by my Department into the matter. I do not propose to intervene on the basis of the allegations made.
