Vol. 159 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the average wage paid to road labourers employed by county councils, and (b) the estimated number of such workers in the Republic.

The average weekly rate of wages paid at present by county councils to road labourers is £5 4s. 1d. The total number of persons employed by county councils on road works varies from time to time. The average number employed on road works over the 12 months ended 31st March last was 18,234. Separate figures are not available in the Department to show the number of labourers included in that figure.
