Vol. 160 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Airport.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is proposed to establish an airport in Cork, and, if so, when he expects to be in a position to make a detailed statement on the matter.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, having regard to the fact that the recent air agreement with Great Britain provides for scheduled services from Cork, he will state when it is proposed to commence work on the Cork airport.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 24 and 25 together.

The Cork Airport project is under active consideration at present, following the conclusion of the new air agreement with Great Britain, but I cannot, at this stage, say when it will be possible for me to make any announcement on the subject. In order to reassure the Deputies, however, I may add that there is no avoidable loss of time in dealing with the matter.

Can the Minister say whether or not there is agreement amongst the members of the Government as to the future of this project?

That will all be made clear to the Deputy when the statement comes to be made.

Still under the hat.

It is as clear as mud.

The Deputy will not have overlooked the fact that his own Government had 19 years in which to build this airport.
