Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pork Sausage Production.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of carcases used for the production of fresh pork, sausages, etc., in the period 1st January to 30th September, 1954, and in the corresponding period of 1956.

The total number of pigs purchased by bacon factories for the production of fresh pork, sausages etc., together with the number of pigs slaughtered by licensed pork exporters, during the 39 weeks ended 29th September, 1956 was 90,566. The corresponding total for the 39 weeks ended 2nd October, 1954 was 201,864. No particulars are available in respect of pigs slaughtered by pork butchers who are not covered by the above returns.
