Vol. 160 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exports of Creamery Butter.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) the amount of creamery butter exported, and calculated to be exported, in the current financial year, and (b) the cost of subsidising such exports.

As regards (a) in the Deputy's question there have been no commercial exports of creamery butter since the beginning of the current financial year but there is likely to be a surplus of 3,000 to 4,000 tons available for export later in the year. As regards (b) it is not possible to say what prices will be obtained for whatever quantities may be exported. Close touch is being maintained with prospective export markets so that the highest possible prices may be obtained.
