Vol. 160 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices of Jams and Marmalades.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what were the findings of the Prices Advisory Body in respect of the wholesale profit margins on jams and marmalades arising out of the public inquiry into jam and marmalade prices.

As announced in the public Press at the time, the Advisory Body reported that the wholesale discounts allowed by members of the Irish Jam Manufacturers' Association were excessive and recommended that they should be reduced, the manufacturers to apply the saving thus effected to mitigate proposed increases in the prices of their products.

Has that been done? Has the recommendation been implemented?

It has. The reduction in the discounts has been applied to a mitigation of the proposed increases, which would otherwise take place.
