Vol. 160 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Authority Employees' Salaries and Wages.

asked the Minister for Health if, with reference to his statement in Circular No. 52-56 of 27th July, 1956, that while the present conditions obtain he will be unable, save in the most exceptional circumstances, to agree to increases in staff complements or in remuneration of staff, he will state (a) what he deems to be "exceptional circumstances", and (b) whether the salaries and wages of local health authority employees are now to be regarded as frozen.

As it is not possible to visualise in advance all the circumstances which may arise it is not possible to indicate which will be deemed to be exceptional.

It should be apparent from a reading of the circular that the reply to the second part of the question is "No".
