Vol. 160 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Forestry Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Lands if, in view of the fact that all other forestry workers are paid the county council rate of £5 10s. 0d. a week, he will state why ten workers employed on the State forest at Coolbawn, Ballinderry, Nenagh, County Tipperary, are paid only £5 0s. 0d. a week.

The wages of forestry workers are related to those of county council roadworkers in the county in which the forest or the major portion of it lies. The State forest lands at Coolbawn form part of Portumna Forest and as the major portion of the forest is in County Galway, the appropriate wage rate is that payable to roadworkers employed by Galway County Council.
