Vol. 160 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballingarry Collieries: Price Increases.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether Ballingarry Collieries, Limited, consulted him before increasing the price of their various grades of coal some weeks ago; whether he is aware that the price of culm, or duff, was raised from £3 10s. 0d. to £4 10s. 0d. a ton; and if, in view of the fact that culm is used by the less well-to-do sections of the people, he will have the matter investigated.

I am aware of the price increase referred to by the Deputy, but as there has been no statutory control over the price of anthracite the question of prior consultation did not arise.

I have, however, referred the matter to the Prices Advisory Body for investigation.
