Vol. 160 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway New School.

asked the Minister for Education when building operations on the new national school at Kiltarten, near Gort, County Galway, will commence.

As I informed the Deputy in reply to his previous question on the 2nd November, 1955, delay arose in this case owing to the necessity for making investigations as to the feasibility of obtaining, on or near the site, an adequate supply of water for a water-flushed system of sanitation at the proposed new school. A satisfactory water supply has since been obtained on the site and the Commissioners of Public Works have prepared the working drawings and specification for a new school with water-closets.

The invitation of tenders for the erection of the new school has had to be deferred for the present, however, because of the fact that the Commissioners' existing contractual commitments in respect of expenditure of grants on school building and improvements in the current financial year will fully exhaust the amount provided in the Estimates for Public Services, under Vote 9.
