Vol. 160 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Oil Refinery Agreement.

Mr. Lemass

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement on the provisions of the agreement for the establishment of an oil refinery which refer to the method of determining the prices to be charged in the home-market for its products.

I see no reason for making a statement on the subject. The Deputy may rest assured, however, that in this as well as in other aspects of the proposals the interests of the public have been adequately safeguarded in any agreements that have been made with the companies concerned.

Mr. Lemass

Will the Minister say if the agreement does contain any provisions for determining prices?

It contains provisions in respect of prices which adequately protect the public interest in the matter.

Mr. Lemass

Will the public be told what these provisions are?

Oh, no. That is a dark Coalition secret.

When the public see the scheme in operation they will know how well their interests are safeguarded.

Mr. Lemass

When will they see the scheme?

When the refinery is in operation.

Mr. Lemass

Will they be told about the agreement then?

They will have the benefit of the agreement then.
