Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Manufactures Act Licences.

Mr. Lemass

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of licences under the Control of Manufactures Act which have been granted to date in 1956, the commodities to which they relate, and the aggregate amount of capital investment involved.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report a statement giving the required information.

Following is the statement:—

NEW MANUFACTURE LICENCES ISSUED UNDER CONTROL OF MANUFACTURES ACTS TO DATE IN 1956.

Commodities in respect of which 15 new manufacture licences were granted to date in 1956:

Ladies' clothes, meat products, organs and pianos, hangings and furnishings, ladies' frocks, leather for gloves, ball point pens, margarine, synthetic cream and emulsion oil, salt, washing soda, bicarbonate of soda, pepper, spices, minerals and aerated waters, squashes, fruit juices and cordials, corduroys, printing cloth and cotton shirting, silica and silica sand, razor blades, carpets, rugs, runners and cotton yarns, dyeing of yarns.

The aggregate amount of capital investment involved is estimated at approximately £300,000.
