Vol. 160 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Working Horses.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the danger that oil supplies to this country may be curtailed, he will take immediate steps to prevent the export of working horses.

The export trade in working horses provides a valuable outlet for the surplus being produced and an incentive to farmers to maintain breeding at a satisfactory level. For those reasons, I do not feel that it would be appropriate at this juncture to take the steps suggested in the question. I can assure the Deputy, however, that the position is being kept under close review.
