Vol. 160 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Forestry Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Forestry Division of his Department have inspected all lands in the electoral areas of Ballycroy which have been offered for forestry purposes and, if so, whether it has been decided to acquire any of those lands.

In the area referred to by the Deputy my Department has on hands an offer of a one-seventh share of a commonage of about 3,500 acres in the townland of Ballycroy. It is believed that the other co-owners may also be prepared to offer their shares. The commonage will be inspected as soon as possible.

Five other offers, most of them commonages, with a total area of over 9,000 acres, were inspected in this district recently but were found unsuitable for forestry purposes because of soil quality and wind exposure.
