Vol. 160 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltacht Fishing Stations.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has completed his consideration of the proposal to establish a fishing station in the Galway Gaeltacht, and, if so, with what result.

I assume the Deputy's question to refer to proposals for the establishment of a number of major fishing stations for which purpose the Galway Gaeltacht had among other regions been surveyed. These proposals generally have been under review but consideration of them has not yet been completed.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say how any special difficulty has been experienced in relation to this matter?

I can assure the Deputy that the proposals generally have been under review and that consideration of them has not yet been completed.

Am I to take it that the plan for the establishment of these six stations is not yet decided upon?

The Deputy may take it that the proposals generally are under review but that consideration of them has not been completed.

What I want to know from the Parliamentary Secretary is whether there has been a general decision that development of this kind will not be accepted by the Government? The Parliamentary Secretary will remember it was accepted in principle by the previous Government. Has that been confirmed or ratified by the present Government?
