Vol. 160 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether it is proposed to take steps to end the three-day waiting period in respect of benefit claims under the Social Welfare Act, 1952, particularly in cases where applicants are transferring from unemployment benefit to unemployment assistance; and, if so, when.

Amendment of the Social Welfare Acts, 1952 and 1956, for the purpose mentioned in the first part of the Deputy's question, is not at present contemplated. The matter referred to in the second part of the question has been examined and noted in connection with legislation, which I hope to introduce, to amend the Unemployment Assistance Acts.
