Vol. 160 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Galway Farm.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission are aware that the lands on the Kirwin estate, Dalgan, Milltown, County Galway are being offered for sale and whether, in view of the congestion in the locality, they will consider the propriety of acquiring this farm for division among the uneconomic tenants.

My information is that these lands carry a heavy timber crop and have recently been sold. Nevertheless I have asked the Land Commission to investigate the matter.

I would like to ask the Minister if he is aware that those lands were sold recently, but that the sale has fallen through? Is he aware that, in fact, there is great urgency in this matter because if action is not taken the lands will probably be sold again and these lands represent the only hope of solving congestion in this area?

If it had not fallen through, he would not be worried. His pal bought it.

I want to say that is a deliberate untruth.

Your pal bought it in the town of Tuam.

That is not so.

It is so, and I know it.

Deputy Killilea has said that the Parliamentary Secretary stated a deliberate untruth. That is charging the Parliamentary Secretary with telling a lie. I assume the Deputy is withdrawing that?

I said that the statement he made was untrue.

That is the same thing and the Deputy must withdraw that.

I withdraw it.
