Vol. 160 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost-of-Living Figures.

Major de Valera

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (a) the average cost-of-living figures for the years 1953, 1954 and 1955, and (b) the latest available figure for 1956.

The average Consumer Price Index figures (to base: August, 1947=100) for each of the years 1953, 1954 and 1955 were 125, 125, and 128 respectively. The latest available figure for 1956 is mid-August 135.

Major de Valera

Would the Parliamentary Secretary give me the figures with relation to the base, June, 1914?

I am sorry; I could not.

Major de Valera

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say what the conversion factor is?

I could not say that.

Major de Valera

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say how does the index compare with the average for 1951?

This seems to be an entirely separate question.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary give us the figures for mid-May, 1952, and mid-August, 19521

Would the Parliamentary Secretary fulfil his promises to reduce the prices to the 1951 prices ?

Question No. 3.
