Vol. 160 No. 9

Committee on Finance. - Pensions (Increase) Bill, 1956—Money Resolution.

I move:—

That it is expedient to authorise such charges on and payments out of the Central Fund or the growing produce thereof and such payments out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas as are necessary to give effect to any Act of the present session to provide for the increase of certain pensions payable in respect of public service.

The Minister was good enough on the Second Stage to indicate to the House what the Bill would cost this year so we have no grounds for opposing it.

I already indicated in the Budget that it was estimated that it would cost £140,000 in a full year—£37,000 to civil servants, £40,000 to national teachers and £28,000 to the Garda Siochána and other State pensioners. These, of course, are approximate figures.

Question put and agreed to.
Resolution reported and agreed to.
