Vol. 160 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Glasses, Dentures and Medical Appliances.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make alternative arrangements for supplying, other than through local assistance officers, glasses, dentures and medical appliances to the holders of general medical service cards.

The making of arrangements for the supply of these items is a matter for each health authority having regard to local circumstances and I would be very reluctant to interfere in this matter. So far as I am aware the position generally is that these appliances are made available on the recommendation of properly qualified medical or dental staff. Any function performed by local assistance officers in relation to the matter is mainly of a clerical nature.
