Vol. 160 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Galway Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether there is still an unallocated parcel of some 14 or 15 acres of land left over in the Peak farm, Dominican Fathers' estate, Gortaleen, Dunmore, County Galway; whether these lands have been let to a man who has sublet them; and when the Land Commission propose allocating them to uneconomic tenants in the locality.

Of the original estate of 147 acres, the unallotted portion comprises 11 acres in the townland of Gortaleen. Pending the disposal of this residue, the lands have been let for revenue purposes each season and the Land Commission are not aware of any subletting thereof. It is expected that final allotment of the 11 acres will be possible fairly soon and, in this connection, the claims of the local applicants will be fully considered.

If it should transpire that subletting is taking place what steps would the Land Commission take?

It is not taking place. I know all about it.

Since the Deputy's question was put down the Land Commission have made inquiries and they say that there is no subletting.

If there was subletting what action would the Land Commission take?

That is a separate question.
