Vol. 160 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointments of Peace Commissioners.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state (a) the number of peace commissioners appointed throughout the State in the period 1st July, 1954, to 1st November, 1956, and (b) the names, addresses and occupations of such appointees.

The answer to the first part of the question is 625. As regards the second part I am not satisfied that the compilation of the information asked for would justify the labour that it would entail.

I have asked for certain information and I submit I am entitled to get it. Unless the number of peace commissioners appointed is of such magnitude——

Six hundred and twenty-five.

——I should be given the information for which I have asked.

Could the Minister say how many peace commissioners have died or resigned in the meantime?

The resignations over the period amount to 264.

Is the Minister ashamed to give the names and occupations of the men he appointed?

Question No. 11.
