Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (resumed). - Advisory Councils and Similar Bodies: Industry and Commerce.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will enumerate and name, stating the purpose and function of each one, the several advisory or consultative councils, commissions, committees and similar bodies appointed by him since 1st June, 1954.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it included in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

TABLE of Advisory or Consultative Councils, Commissions, Committees and similar bodies appointed by the Minister for Industry and Commerce since 1st June, 1954.

Inter-Departmental Committee

Established by the Minister for Industry and Commerce to examine and report on the activities carried on by Min Fhéir Teoranta.

July, 1955

Factories Act Advisory Council

Established under provisions of Section 127 of Factories Act, 1955 to consider and advise the Minister on any matters arising on or in relation to the execution of the Act which the Minister may refer to the Council or which the Council itself may decide to consider.

February, 1956

Flour and Bread Committee

To inquire into and report on

(a) the production, distribution and selling costs (including fair allowance for profit) of flour and bread;

(b) whether the present controlled prices are generally justified in relation to those costs, and

(c) what changes, if any, are desirable in the existing system of control of the prices of flour and bread.

July, 1956

Committee of Inquiry into Internal Transport.

To inquire into and review the developments in internal transport in recent years as they affect public transport undertakings: to consider what measures are necessary, in the light of those developments, to ensure the provision of the transport requirements of the country on a basis which will best serve the public interests; and to report thereon to the Minister for Industry and Commerce on or before 1st November, 1956.

Industrial Advisory Council

To consider and advise the Minister in relation to the following matters:

(1) measures for increasing industrial production;

(2) problems arising out of automation;

(3) the efficiency and suitability of industrial plant and equipment and production methods;

(4) design in industry;

(5) improvement of marketing and packaging;

(6) any other matters appertaining to the welfare and development of industry which may be referred to the Council by the Minister for Industry and Commerce or which the Council, on its own initiative, may wish to bring before the Minister.

Informal Committee in relation to the home manufacture of farm machinery and composed of farming and manufacturing interests.
