Vol. 160 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Donegal Cottage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether the Donegal County Council applied to his Department on 9th October, 1956, for permission to borrow £15,700 from the Local Loans Fund, in order to erect ten labourers' cottages and why he did not approve the scheme.

Donegal County Council applied on the 27th September, 1956, for approval to the borrowing of £15,700 from the Local Loans Fund to finance the erection of ten houses in Donegal town. Consideration of the application has been deferred until the council's proposal in regard to the acceptance of a tender for the scheme has been examined. A proposal to accept a tender was received in my Department on the 5th October last and on the 18th of that month the council were asked to furnish a report on the effect of rock excavation on the tender prices. When this information has been submitted there will be no avoidable delay in issuing a decision on the council's proposals.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether the Donegal County Council applied to his Department on the 5th May, 1956, for permission to borrow £9,200 from the Local Loans Fund in order to erect six cottages, and why he did not approve the tenders received.

As regards the first part of the question, I am not so aware. Donegal County Council applied on the 27th September, 1956, for permission to borrow £9,200 from the Local Loans Fund to finance the erection of six houses at St. Johnston. Consideration of the application is deferred pending a decision on the council's proposal to accept a tender for the scheme. A proposal to accept a tender for the erection of the six houses was received in my Department on the 3rd October last. On 11th October, the council were requested to furnish details of the existing housing conditions of the persons to be rehoused in the scheme. When these details have been submitted there will be no avoidable delay in issuing a decision on the council's proposals regarding acceptance of a tender and the raising of a loan.
