Vol. 160 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - House-building Industry.

asked the Taoiseach whether he received recently a deputation from interested parties in the house-building industry; if he will state the nature of the representations made by the deputation; and what decision has been arrived at by the Government.

On Wednesday last, the 5th instant, with the Minister for Local Government, I received a deputation from the Dublin and District House Builders' Association, whose representations related to the subject of the valuation of houses for the purposes of the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts. The matter has since been carefully considered by the Government, and it is believed that a solution, in principle, of the problem has been found. The solution is being worked out in detail with all possible expedition.

Would the Taoiseach indicate whether the solution which he mentions will remedy the position whereby a purchaser at the present time, due to the introduction of Section 19 (b) of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1956, is compelled to put down two and a half times——

That is a particular aspect and is not relevant to the question on the paper.

That is what the question is about, Sir.

In general terms.
