Vol. 160 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of Mayo Schoolchildren.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of the serious hardships endured by the schoolchildren of Doonavoya, Boughadoon, Ballina, who have to travel long distances to school, and, if so, what steps he proposes to take in order to provide transport for them.

I am not aware that the school-going children residing in the townlands of Doonavoya and Boughadoon, County Mayo, suffer serious hardship in order to attend school.

I propose to have investigations made with a view to ascertaining the number of school-going children residing in those townlands and the distances of their homes from the nearest national school.

May I ask the Minister when he proposes to set the inquiries afoot?

At the earliest possible moment. There will not be any unnecessary delay.
