Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Unemployment.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the average cost to public funds of each 1,000 men who are unemployed, such costs to include, if possible, unemployment benefits, unemployment assistance, home assistance and administrative costs.

On the basis of recent figures, it is estimated that 1,000 persons registering as unemployed involve a weekly outlay of about £1,388, including unemployment benefit, unemployment assistance and administrative costs. Home assistance expenditure is not included in this estimate.
