Vol. 160 No. 16

Written Answers. - Agricultural Statistics.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (a) the estimated profits of farms in 1938, (b) the estimated amount of agricultural wages and salaries in 1938, (c) the per cent. of the farm incomes paid in agricultural wages and salaries in 1938, (d) the estimated profits of farms in 1955, (e) the amount of agricultural wages and salaries in 1955, and (f) the per cent. of the farm incomes paid in wages and salaries in 1955.

I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the required information which relates to the sector of the economy "Agriculture, Forestry (excluding foresters employed by the Central Government) and Fishing". It should be borne in mind that there was a considerable decline in the number of employees in agriculture between 1938 and 1955.

Following is the statement:—
