Vol. 161 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exclusive Fishing Limits.

asked the Minister for Lands what regulation or Order defines or delimits the exclusive fishing limits of Ireland.

I would refer the Deputy to Section 2 of the Sea Fisheries Protection Act, 1933, which defines the expression exclusive fishery limits.

Can we take it that the 1933 Act precludes a fisherman in the occupied part of Ireland from fishing within those limits?

That is the position at present.

Does the Minister intend to take any steps to change that disgraceful position and ensure that fishermen from the occupied part of Ireland will be entitled to fish within Irish territorial waters according to Article 2 of the Constitution which the Taoiseach quoted in the House a fortnight ago in reply to a question by me?

Is it not a fact that if these fishermen register their boats within the jurisdiction of the TwentySix Counties they may fish here?

That is a separate question and if the Deputy will put down that question I shall give him the reply.
