Vol. 164 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Positions of Government-Appointed Directors.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state all the positions which are held in the Houses of the Oireachtas, political organisations, companies (public or private), State boards, or local authorities, by any person appointed by him to any directorship since 20th March last.

None of the persons appointed by me to a directorship for the first time since the 20th March, 1957, holds a position in the Houses of the Oireachtas. I have no information regarding their membership of local authorities.

Of the persons appointed to the Board of Dundalk Engineering Works Ltd. the Chairman, Mr. Reynolds, and Mr. Molony are also members of the G.N.R. Board; Mr. Hogan is a member of the Board of C.I.E.; and Mr. McCourt is a Director of Córas Tráchtála Teoranta. None of the other persons appointed by me to directorships since the 20th March, 1957, is a member of any other State board. For the reasons which I have stated in reply to the preceding question I am not prepared to give in reply to Dáil questions any further information which I may possess regarding their affairs.

Will the Minister state if he investigated the other positions of the several people so named here and was satisfied that none of their positions was in any way in conflict with their membership of the boards to which they were appointed?

Mr. Lemass

Yes.

Because the Taoiseach said he would not investigate them.

Their suitability was considered.
