Vol. 165 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Tipperary Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the acreage of land in the possession of the Land Commission in South Tipperary; the present use made of the lands; when it is hoped to have all such lands divided; and the acreage allotted for playing fields, and their location.

Land Commission records are not kept on a constituency basis. In the South Tipperary district, however, the Land Commission have at present on hands 1,600 acres of arable lands, more than one-third of which was acquired as recently as last year. In addition, there are areas of bog, rough grazing, woods and waste amounting to 1,900 acres on hands. Some of the latter consists of estate remnants which are generally difficult to dispose of. At present some 1,200 acres are let mainly in grazing.

It is expected that an area of about 500 acres will be allotted this spring and it may be possible to dispose of additional areas in the course of the year.

In recent years, eight sports-fields, aggregating 46 acres, have been allotted by the Land Commission in the parishes of Cordangan, Fennor, Cloneen, Killenaule, Newcastle, Clonbeg, Buolick and Kiltinan in the South Tipperary district.
