Vol. 165 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Delivery of Sympathy Telegrams.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what arrangements or regulations, if any, have been made by his Department cancelling the delivery by postal messenger of sympathy telegrams in certain areas.

As part of the drive to secure economies in the telegraph service, which for many years has been operating at a loss, an experiment is being conducted in certain areas to determine to what extent delivery of sympathy telegrams can, without disadvantage to sender or addressee, be delivered by postmen on their rounds. The experiment does not extend to sympathy telegrams that include reference to travel or other arrangements. The results are being examined with a view to seeing what, if any, changes in delivery arrangements would be warranted.
