Written Answers. - Limerick Schools.

asked the Minister for Education what proposals exist in his Department concerning (a) new national schools and (b) new vocational schools in the County of Limerick, the present position in each case, and when it is anticipated that work will commence in each case.

The information requested by the Deputy, in so far as it is available, is set out in the following statement:—

The working drawings and specifications have been prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works. The commissioners will not be in a position to arrange for the preparation of Bills of Quantities, which is a necessary preliminary to the invitation of tenders, until an adequate supply of water for sanitary purposes has been made available. The question of a water supply is receiving attention.

It is not possible to say at present.

Knocklong Boys' and Girls'.

Revised working drawings, and incorporating alterations in the scheme originally proposed are being prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works. When these have been completed the commissioners will arrange for the preparation of Bills of Quantities with a view to enabling tenders to be invited for the erection of the schools.

Castleconnell Boys' and Girls'.

Working drawings and specifications have been prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works. Certain other preliminary arrangements have to be made before the commissioners will be in a position to have Bills of Quantities prepared with a view to enabling tenders to be invited.

Tineteriffe

The Department recently sanctioned a grant towards the cost of the erection of this school. It is a matter for the commissioners of Public Works to have working drawings and specifications prepared as a preliminary to the invitation of tenders.

do.

Raheenagh Boys' and Girls'.

The arrangements which are a necessary preliminary to the sanction of a grant towards the cost of the new schools have recently been completed. Having regard, however, to the availability of grant funds in the current financial year and to the necessity for giving priority to the more urgent cases, it is not possible to sanction a grant within the year in respect of the cost of these schools. The case will, however, be carefully considered when the question of the projects to be allowed to proceed in the financial year 1958-59 falls to be determined.
