Vol. 168 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reprint of Income-Tax Statute.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange to have reprinted the principal statute dealing with income-tax, namely, the Income Tax Act, 1918, as amended or modified to 1922, as copies are not on sale in the State.

I understand that copies of statutes enacted prior to 1922 which are in force here can normally be obtained from the British Stationery Office who are the printers and publishers of these statutes. It is understood that orders can be placed through an Irish firm. I am not aware that any difficulty has arisen in obtaining copies of the statutes to which the Deputy refers and accordingly I do not propose to take any action in the matter.

In view of the fact that statements have been made by people who have had such inquiries made that they were informed that such copies were not available, is it not quite clear that there must be some hold-up?

I made an inquiry to a well-known firm in Dublin. They said they could have copies of these Statutes within a week.

Would the Minister say, as a result of these inquiries, what the cost of a copy of the Income Tax Act of 1918 would be?

I do not know what the cost would be. I would say it would be just as low as if we printed them.

No; it is prohibitive.
