Vol. 168 No. 9

Issue of Writ—Dublin South (Central) By-election

I move:—

That the Ceann Comhairle direct the Clerk of the Dáil to issue his Writ for the election of a member to fill the vacancy which has occurred in the membership of the present Dáil consequent on the resignation by Deputy John Murphy of his seat as a member for the Borough Constituency of Dublin South (Central).

I should like to point out to the Tánaiste that our intention in giving notice to issue this Writ was to ensure that the by-election take place before the Summer Recess. I am very glad that the Government have taken courage as a result of the Galway by-election, to accede to our wishes.

And we on our part are glad we screwed you up to it.

Question put and agreed to.
