Vol. 168 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Planting Operations.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will indicate when planting operations will start in the areas of Skibbereen, Aughadown and Baltimore, County Cork.

I presume the Deputy has in mind the land acquired by my Department for forestry purposes over the past few years in the Lough Hyne district, between Skibbereen and Baltimore. The total area now held there is 283 acres. This land is attached to Rosscarbery forest and comprises part of the plantable reserve at that forest. It is possible that some of the land will be planted this year, but at this stage I am not in a position to say when work may start. I will have the Deputy notified when a decision has been reached in the matter.
