Vol. 168 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Live-stock Breeding Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, for the purpose of improving further the quality of shorthorn cattle, he will later the live-stock breeding scheme regulations so that in future only pedigree dairy and beef shorthorn bulls will be licensed.

The suggestion contained in the Deputy's question has been made in different forms over the years and has been rejected.

Apart altogether from any other consideration the proposal would be impracticable inasmuch as the supply of pedigree bulls could meet only a very small proportion of our annual requirements of shorthorn bulls.
