Vol. 169 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Bribery Allegation.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that at the meeting of Cork Corporation on 24th June, 1958, held for the purpose of electing a Lord Mayor, an allegation was made that an attempt had been made to bribe a member of the corporation in order to procure his vote for a candidate; whether he has any function in regard to making an inquiry into such an allegation; and, if so, if he has in fact commenced such an investigation.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a member of the Cork Corporation publicly alleged at a meeting of the city council held on 24th June that he had been offered a bribe for his vote in connection with the election of Lord Mayor; and, if so, whether he will state what action he proposes to take in the matter.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 17 and 18 together. I have no information about this matter beyond what has appeared in the public Press and, at any rate, I have no functions in the matter.
