Vol. 170 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - British Commonwealth Economic Conference.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if Ireland will be represented at the British Commonwealth Economic Conference in Montreal next September, and, if not, if he will request the Commonwealth Nations to permit the attendance of Irish observers, having regard to (a) our common interests with them, and (b) the particular value which would be derived from participation in the conference which has as its primary purpose the establishment of a permanent organisation for the co-ordination of the financial needs of its members and the encouragement and control of capital investment on a Commonwealth basis under agreed conditions.

We have not received an invitation to attend the Montreal conference, and I do not think we should take the initiative suggested by the Deputy.
