Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Exports.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the description of the goods the export of which is controlled by him, and the date and reference of the Order applicable in each case.

Export control is exercised by me under the Control of Exports Order, 1958, the Agricultural Products (Restriction of Export) Order, 1956, as amended, and in relation to unmanufactured and manufactured tobacco, under the Tobacco Act, 1934. In view of the number of items involved I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate a statement with the Official Report giving particulars of the goods controlled under the Orders mentioned, together with the references and dates of the Orders.

Following is the statement:—

Goods the export of which is controlled by the Minister for Industry and Commerce under the Control of Exports Order, 1958 (S.I. No. 79 of 1958) of 28th March, 1958:—

PART I

ARTICLES THE EXPORT OF WHICH IS CONTROLLED TO ALL PLACES.

Aluminium scrap.

Brass scrap.

Cement.

Copper scrap.

Iron and Steel and manufactures thereof.

Iron and Steel scrap.

Lead and manufactures thereof, lead alloys and manufactures thereof, lead scrap, lead bearing scrap, lead dross, lead residues and lead ashes.

Machinery and parts.

Vehicles (including locomotives and tractors but excluding ships and aircraft) and parts thereof.

PART II

ARTICLES THE EXPORT OF WHICH IS CONTROLLED TO PLACES OTHER THAN NORTHERN IRELAND AND GREAT BRITAIN.

Aircraft and parts thereof.

Arms, ammunition and military and naval stores.

Chemicals and petroleum products.

Diamonds for industrial use.

Electrical goods and apparatus and parts thereof.

Glassware, scientific.

Graphite, artificial.

Non-ferrous ores, metals and manufactures thereof.

Nylon parachute cloth.

Paper or synthetic film for dielectric use (condenser tissue).

Refractory materials and products.

Rubber, synthetic and rubber manufactures as follows:

tyre casings, high pressure rotary drilling hose, meteorological balloons and water lubricated bearings.

Scientific instruments and apparatus including high speed cinematograph cameras.

Ships and parts thereof.

Tools (including dies and slugs) incorporating diamonds.

PART III

ARTICLES EXCEPTED FROM LISTS OF ARTICLES SET OUT IN PART I AND PART II.

Antiques.

Appliances, apparatus, accessories and requisites (including gaming machines) for sports, games, gymnastics or athletics.

Appliances, equipment, utensils (including cooking, heating, washing and cleaning apparatus) suitable only for domestic use.

Beads.

Belldomes and gongs.

Binoculars.

Book-ends.

Brooms and Brushes.

Buttons.

Church furniture and church requisites.

Cigar and cigarette cases and boxes and articles of which such cases or boxes form part.

Machinery and parts as follows:

Office machines.

Manicure sets.

Manufacturers of silver, electro-plate and nickel silver.

Mechanical lighters.

Medals.

Medicines and medicinal preparations.

Nail cleaners, clippers, files and polishers.

Pipes for smoking tobacco and parts thereof.

Motor cars (including taxis), motor cycles, motor trucks, vans, lorries and station wagons.

PART I

ARTICLES THE EXPORT OF WHICH IS PROHIBITED TO ALL PLACES.

Horns and hooves of cattle.

Sheep or lamb pelts and pieces thereof.

Sheepskins and sheepskin pieces.

Sugar.

Wood and timber (not including cork, wood-wool, wood-flour or fully constructed articles of timber).

PART II

ARTICLES THE EXPORT OF WHICH IS PROHIBITED TO PLACES OTHER THAN NORTHERN IRELAND AND GREAT BRITAIN.

Rubber, natural including latex.

*There are four amending Orders. With the exception of Agricultural Products (Restriction of Export) Order 1956 (Amendment) Order, 1957 (S.I. No. 2 of 1957) of 5th January 1957, which has added sugar to the list of goods controlled, the net effect of the other Orders has been to remove goods from export control.
