Dáil Éireann debate -
Tuesday, 25 Nov 1958

Vol. 171 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Programme of Economic Expansion.

asked the Taoiseach if he proposes to give Dáil Éireann an early opportunity of discussing the Government's recently published White Paper on their Programme for Economic Expansion.

As I indicated in the course of a debate on a motion in this House on the 30th ultimo, if the Dáil desires to have a special opportunity of discussing the White Paper referred to by the Deputy, the Government will be prepared to afford such an opportunity.

What does that mean exactly? Does the Taoiseach propose to have a debate?

If there is a request for it from the Opposition, time can be arranged by the Whips.

Does the Taoiseach mean by way of motion?

If there is a request from Deputies——

Does the Taoiseach not consider that a debate on the White Paper would be more advantageous to the State than a long debate on the abolition of P.R.?

Question No. 4.

I should like to get this clear. If the Opposition Parties or one of the Opposition Parties would like to have a discussion on the proposals contained in the White Paper, I assume the Government will be prepared to give time?

If I get the request. I would rather have the request than deal with a hypothetical matter.
