Vol. 171 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fatal Accidents on Roads.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the large number of fatal accidents on the roads, he is prepared to set up a committee to make an immediate inquiry into this serious matter and to report to him on ways and means of bringing greater safety to road users.

I already have a large amount of authoritative documentation on road traffic. I hope to be in a position to have proposals for legislation approved for circulation next year. The setting up of a committee in the meantime would only delay the publication of concrete proposals.

Will it be early next year?

I said earlier that I hoped it would be, but it is really hoping I am.
