Vol. 171 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Curragh Internment Camp Huts.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that there are leaks in the roofs of some of the huts in which prisoners are housed in the Curragh Internment Camp, and that in some instances water falls on the prisoners' beds in wet weather; and, if so, what steps are being taken to remedy the position.

Shortly after the occupation of the camp the roofs of all the sleeping huts were refelted. Since that time any small leaks which occurred were promptly repaired. Such incidents did not cause any undue hardship.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of prisoners housed per hut in the Curragh Internment Camp, and the size of each hut.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by me on the 30th October to his question on the subject of conditions in the camp. I am not prepared to add to that beyond saying that the huts in which the men are accommodated provide more space per man than the optimum recommended by the Army medical authorities for serving soldiers.
