Vol. 171 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Teachers' Salaries Arbitration Decision.

asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to announce the decision of arbitration on national teachers' application for salary increase.

andMr. Cunningham asked the Minister for Education when it is expected that the result of the arbitration proceedings on salary increases for national teachers will be announced.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has received a report from the arbitration board which recently considered a claim for increased pay by national school teachers; whether the Government have accepted the award; and, if so, when the increased rates will be paid.

With the permission of An Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 30, 31 and 32 together.

The report of the arbitration board for national teachers on its recent proceedings in connection with a claim from these teachers for increased salaries is under consideration by the Government in accordance with the conciliation and arbitration scheme. It is hoped that it will be possible to present the report to Dáil Éireann in the present session.

Can we take it that the "present session" means before the Christmas adjournment?

Yes; that is what we hope.
