asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state in respect of the County Meath area (a) the number of persons in receipt of the maximum social assistance benefit and the amount of that benefit, and (b) the number of single persons in receipt of social assistance.

The Deputy's question has been taken as referring to unemployment assistance.

There are six scheduled weekly rates of unemployment assistance applicable in County Meath. These rates and the number of persons in the county who received payment at these rates, i.e., without deduction in respect of means, in the week ended 29th November, 1958, are shown above.

The number of single persons resident in County Meath who received unemployment assistance in the week ended 29th November, 1958, was 50.
