Vol. 171 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Deceased Members of F.C.A.: Military Honours.

50.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will consider giving to deceased members of the F.C.A. full military honours.

Defence Force Regulations provide that full military honours may, subject to certain conditions, be accorded to a deceased member of the Reserve Defence Force only when such member was, at the time of his death, on service in aid of the civil power, undergoing annual training or other full-time military training or instruction or on permanent service.

I very much regret that it would not be practicable to extend the scope of the regulations to cover the cases of deceased members of An Fórsa Cosanta Aitiúil other than those in the categories mentioned.
