Vol. 172 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Reclamation in Cork and Donegal.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) the acreage of land to be reclaimed by the drainage of Cork Harbour and the acreage estimated to be reclaimed by the drainage of the River Swilly, and (b) the amount spent by the Government on drainage in County Donegal as compared with the other counties.

The Commissioners of Public Works have no proposals for the drainage of Cork Harbour and no estimate in relation to the River Swilly, as referred to in part (a) of the question. The comparisons requested in part (b) cannot be made for the reason that the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, provides for the execution of schemes on a catchment area basis, and consequently, records of expenditure are not compiled on a county area basis.
