Vol. 173 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Poliomyelitis Vaccination Campaign.

19.

asked the Minister for Health if in view of the relatively unsatisfactory response to the poliomyelitis vaccination campaign he will consider offering the vaccine free for a limited period of one year in order to find out whether the payment factor has deterred parents from having their children vaccinated.

Final figures of the numbers participating in the current poliomyelitis vaccination scheme are not yet available from all areas. Moreover, as details of the contributory scheme were announced only in July last and as a number of children in the group entitled to avail of this scheme were vaccinated privately, I could not, at this early stage, accept that the response was unsatisfactory. The question of the arrangements to be made for the scheme this year is at present under active consideration and an announcement in regard to it will be made as soon as possible.
